Bowel Screening

Scottish Bowel Screening Programme

  • Almost 4,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in Scotland.
  • The good news is bowel screening reduces bowel cancer deaths.
  • Everyone between 50 and 74 will receive a test kit by post every two years.
  • Take the test. You can do it at home – it’s quick, easy to do and it could be a lifesaver.

Message In A Bottle

This new initiative is an emergency information scheme that is provided free of charge by the local Rotary Clubs, and supported by Health, Social, support and emergency services.

The scheme is aimed at people of all ages who feel vulnerable at home. The bottle pack gives the user the means to alert the emergency services to important medical information and contact details, should an accident or sudden illness in their home occur.

Are You A Carer?

Do you provide help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour who could not manage without your help?

The person may need your help because of their age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.

If the answer is 'YES', please ask at reception for a 'Carer's Questionnaire'. For additional information, please access the South Ayrshire Carers website at www.carers.org or see leaflets in the practice reception.


Breasfeeding Support Group

The Breastfeeding Network holds a drop-in group providing breastfeeding support and advice to all new mums and babies. This informal group is held on Tuesdays 12.15pm - 2.15pm in the Carrick Centre.

Medicines in Scotland: What's the right treatment for me?

Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) has produced an information booklet which explains how people can work with their doctor (or other healthcare professional) to decide whether a medicine is needed and if so, which to prescribe. It also explains about the likely benefits and possible risks of medicines.

Patient Rights & Responsibilities

As a patient you have certain rights, some of which are detailed below:

  • Your health records are confidential and information is processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act. 
  • The practice operates a non-discriminatory policy in that all patients shall be dealt with equally regardless of race, religion, gender, age, sexuality, disability, or socio-economic status.
  • You are entitled to complain about any service or treatment you have received that you are unhappy with. This will be dealt with initially by the Practice Manager.
  • You may accept or refuse treatment including examinations, tests and diagnostic procedures. Please ensure that you have been given enough information to enable you to make an informed choice.

As a patient there are certain responsibilities you have which can help our practice to work more effectively.

  • Practice staff endeavour to provide the best service for our patients and we would ask that you help by treating them with respect and patience at all times. Any violence, verbal, or physical abuse will not be tolerated.
  • Notify the Practice of any changes in your name, address, telephone number and ensure that you also notify hospitals or clinics at the same time.
  • Ensure that you follow the advice and treatment you have been given. If you are concerned about this please contact the person who gave the initial advice.
  • If you are unable to attend a pre-booked appointment, please notify the Practice as soon as possible.
